Kathak Kendra organizes a captivating lecture demonstration every Friday, led by its esteemed Gurus. These sessions cover a wide range of subjects, including Vocal Music, Tabla, Pakhawaj, Kathak dance and Yoga, providing students with a unique blend of performance and pedagogy. The Gurus not only showcase their mastery of the art but also explain its intricacies, allowing students to explore the deeper nuances of their respective subject.
This Lecture Demonstration was conducted on September 6, 2024, by the revered Guru Smt. Malti Shyam Ji, offering an enriching experience for all in attendance. Guru Malti Ji's presentation focused on key concepts in Kathak, such as Saundarya Bodh (aesthetic sense), Andaz (style), and Sthirta (stability), beautifully demonstrating how these elements come to life in performance. Her graceful and benevolent energy was palpable throughout the session.
Adhering to Kathak's traditional repertoire, Guru Malti Ji's presentation also delved into some of Pt. Birju Maharaj's rarely seen Bandishes (compositions) and elegant Gati-Vritti (rhythmic movements), offering a fresh perspective to the younger generation. The session allowed the audience to witness the artist exploring subtle nuances of Kathak's classical repertoire, leaving a lasting impression on both students and attendees. This event further emphasized Kathak Kendra's commitment to preserving and promoting the purity and depth of this ancient art form. Furthermore, students were given the opportunity to showcase their own choreographies, enriching their practical learning experience. We look forward to seeing more fresh and exciting initiatives at Kathak Kendra in the future.
