ESTABLISHING CULTURAL TIES WITH GUYANA

The Kathak Kendra, New Delhi being the National Institute of Kathak Dance is a premier Dance institution of the country, dedicated to promoting the practice, development and awareness of Kathak Dance as a performing art tradition, as well as a component of the rich classical heritage of the nation. Kathak Kendra aims to carve highly skilled performers of the art who are the next generation of learned Guru-s, Choreographers and above all, intelligent advocates of the art-form.


ESTABLISHING CULTURAL TIES WITH GUYANA

The Kathak Kendra organised a welcome gesture on arrival of the Dr. Vidya Vasini Persaud, Honourable Minister for Human Services and Social Security, Guyana and Ms. Trishala Simantini Persaud, Ambassador at the Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent mission of the cooperative Republic of Guyana to the United States.



Dr. Vindhya Vasini Persaud is also the President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. A dedicated physician, social worker and an art enthusiast, Dr. Persaud focuses on community welfare and women empowerment. The event also celebrated cultural exchange, highlighting the rich traditions and shared heritage of the two nations.



The program featured a mesmerizing Kathak performance by Kathak Kendra students, showcasing the depth of Indian classical dance. A captivating Jugalbandi of Tabla and Pakhawaj, prepared by Dr. Shashikant Pathak, enthralled the audience. The Yogadhyatm event by guided by Dr. Amit Kumar Chauhan, beautifully combined lyrical yogic patterns with spirituality, symbolizing the connection between the mind and supreme consciousness. Swadheen Mann is a poetic creation around an Independent and a complete mind that is free from all sorts of bondage was directed by Smt. Swati Sinha in Kathak Style of Dance. The ‘Janm Liye Raghurai’ which is conceived and choreographed by Guru Smt. Malti Shyam wherein she attempts to recreate the divinity, when Shri Ram took birth.



The event commenced with a short film from Guyana, which beautifully depicted the Diwali celebrations, emphasizing the cultural ties between the nations. Dr. Vindhya Vasini Persaud has been an outspoken and proactive advocate against many social ills. Her work has been guided by the motto of "action thy duty, reward not thy concern". Dr. Vindhya who organises her annual event namely 'Naya Zamana', dedicated to promoting cultural activities, is also a passionate Kathak artiste. Her commitment to preserving and promoting Indian culture is evident in her active contributions to cultural development.



During the event, Kathak Kendra successfully negotiated significant cultural exchange thoughts, including discussions on a short-term youth exchange program. This initiative aims to bring students from Guyana to Kathak Kendra, where they will have the opportunity to learn the art of Kathak dance.
