On August 4, 2024, the Friday Lecture Demonstration series was graced by a distinguished presentation from Shri Shashikant Pathak, a renowned Pakhawaj artist. The event commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony. Esteemed Gurus from the Kathak Kendra also participated in this auspicious beginning, setting a reverent tone for the session. The program was further enriched by the presence of eager students who were keen to explore the intricate details of Pakhawaj repertoire and its integration with Kathak dance.
Shri Shashikant Pathak, a celebrated artist in the field of Pakhawaj, is well-regarded for his exceptional skills and extensive performances worldwide. He has been trained under the guidance of Ustad Kudao Singh and is associated with the Nana Sahib Pansey Gharana, inheriting a rich lineage of Pakhawaj mastery. His impressive credentials include being an A-grade artist for both Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR). On this occasion, he was accompanied by Sri Rajesh Mishra, adding to the depth of the performance.
During his lecture demonstration, Shri Pathak highlighted the intricate nuances of Pakhawaj, particularly its collaboration with Kathak dance. His performance showcased his virtuosity as his fingers deftly navigated the instrument, creating a spellbinding effect. He elucidated the various Gharana styles of playing Bandishes, providing valuable insights into the diverse techniques and their application in Kathak.
