On August 13, 2024, the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi was the venue for a remarkable Independence Day celebration organized by the Ministry, showcasing an impressive array of Kathak dance performances by the Kathak Center. The event was marked by several significant presentations that highlighted the depth and elegance of Kathak. Mrs. Gauri Diwakar's performance titled "Veer Bhogyam Vasundhara" provided a fresh interpretation of Makhanlal Chaturvedi's celebrated poem "Pushp Ki Abhilasha." This piece explored the diverse meanings of freedom and the sacrifices of freedom fighters through intricate dance choreography. The performance was enhanced by the musical accompaniment of Akhilesh Bhatt on Tabla, Ghanshyam Sisodia on sarangi, Sukhomay Debnath on vocals, and Mehrab Hussain on sitar, with dancers such as Maria Timosova and Deepshika Upreti delivering a compelling visual narrative.
Following this, Mrs. Renu Bassi presented "Bharat-Tiranga," a performance that celebrated India's unity and cultural heritage. The piece beautifully embodied the national flag through a harmonious blend of emotion and rhythm, with notable performers including Mayukh Bhattacharya, Mukesh Gangani, Rohit Pawar, and others. Mrs. Swati Sinha’s presentation of "Swadhin Man" focused on themes of mental freedom and unrestrained creativity, symbolizing the journey towards liberation and contentment. This dance was supported by the musical talents of Shakeel Ahmed on Tabla, Maulana Nizam on vocals, Maulana Ayub on sarangi, and Mehrab Hussain on sitar, with dancers like Tanishka Khadewal and Diksha Thapliyal.
Additionally, Mrs. Shilpi Jha’s students performed two evocative songs: "Mera Desh Mera Desh Hai Ye," which highlighted communal harmony and featured music by Dr. Mangla Kapoor, and "Aaj Gayo Shaheedon Ka Gaan," a tribute to martyrs with music by Ravi Bhatnagar. These captivating performances were well-received and also presented at the Sangeet Natak Akademi, garnering widespread acclaim for their artistic excellence and emotional depth.
